I dont wanna grow up.

July 2 2008, 1:53 AM

It's July! And that means this weekend is 4th of July!

Okay wait, let me backtrack a little... Yesterday was aweful. There is no other word. I normally dont mind mondays in the summer, but yesterday would have been a bad day no matter what day of the week, or time of the year. Mainly because my friend at work, she works at both museums also, didn't get a full time job she was planning on. Okay so what? thats life? No, its not just that. As you may have read, this place is messed up. Shes been wokring there for a year, and they took a random new guy over her. Basically a slap in the face for a 23 year old. Completely unfair. She is in graduate school for history now, and this was an ideal job. She was crying, and pretty hard on herself about it, but i talked to her for a while and told her it's not her, its them, completely, which is true. I feel so bad, because she has spent a lot fo time there, trying to get her foot in the door, and then they push her out like that. It's a lesson that life isn't fair, and to protect yourself against that you have to expect it from certain people, and learn to treat others fairly. It's hard getting older and being rejected, ill learn that this year applying to college, im sure. But its real life situations like this, so close to me, that scare me the most. Im glad im seeing this now, even though going to work there on friday is going to make me feel a little gross and uncomfortable. I could barely sleep last night, because it makes me feel insecure also. She had another interview today though, and i hope to hear that it went well. Yesterday was also completely boring, until that, and then after i sat in traffic, traffic, traffic, thinking.

Today was like watching paint dry but atleast no traumas. I went to work, and then practiced parallel parking. a lot. Then i ran 2 miles, which i havent done in a while but i made it! yay! So im writing my sister a letter and then back to work tomorrow...hopefully a better sleep tonight and a better day tomorrow than the last two.

Where was my weekend?

June 30 2008, 1:22 AM

Um it happens to be after 9pm on Sunday. What? This weekend consisted of work, and only work, maybe thats where it went. Like i said, i fear boredom, so i refuse to give myself a day off. Staurday was my actual job. yes i saw Romer, of course. We talked for legitimately 5 minutes the whole day, but thats how i like it now. I i told Z that i figure that the whole age thing didnt work out, combined with my overbearing personality once he wanted to hangout, also combined with the fact that im not good enough for him. I thought for a while i was, and Z tells me (like a good friend) that i am, but no so much, and i respect that, i totally understand hes amazing. Anyway, yesterday was the last day i will see J for a long time. *sad face* Shes going on a fam trip to ireland and italy, not fair i know. She'll have so much fun and ill be back at work, work, working. I love it at work though, through all its flaws, and even though i have to do way too much manual labor that im underpaid for, its almost perfect. Yesterday there was a new volunteer, C. Shes an oldy and when i first saw her she said, "Uh oh i just made something up to a visitor. They asked what that statue is on the top of the capitol, and i told them it was the statue of justice and it was a gift from the french." haha, if you arent familiar, or just dont get the punch line here, she was thinking of the statue of liberty...not the freedom statue on congress, which in no way was a gift from the french. Poor visitors.

Today i was back at my other museum, and it was a rather dry, stagant day. I love it there too, but he people there arent so colorful, as ive probably mentioned. However i did walk to whole foods for lunch. After work i came home, watched the Phillies lose to the texans gahh, and here i am, not ready to start another week of crazy camp counseling. Luckily this week is only a 4 day week because friday is...the 4th of July! Nice right? Nope. I'm working at my other job all day long, holiday crafting and pouring out my philly knowledge. I hope its extra holiday pay.

Note to self: Go to bed early and dont think about tomorrow.

Survived!

June 28 2008, 2:01 AM

Yes, i survived my first week of camp counseling. yay. And my reward? Real work tomorrow.  Im excited to go next week though to see the kids, and meet new ones who will show up for the second session. Since today was the last day of this session, it was farewell day: when all the parents come at the end of the days to visit/see what the kids learned. We did a yawning demo and hows its contagious. very entertaining. Im working camp for the next session, 2 more weeks, and then penn camp! Im getting so excited. I also really need to visit more schools. Especially northwestern and carnegie mellon. Those schools will be key if i dont get into penn, plus i would really like to visit chicago.

Obviously nothing too pressing and exhausting is on my mind right now. So im going to read my new book: How to WOW. haha life lessons that need to be learned...

Will update tomorrow!

addicted.

June 25 2008, 11:32 PM

Today, during my lunch break i determined that i am an addict. Not a bad addict, i dont smoke or drink, but i guess im just addicted to a lot and i dont know if its good to be addicted to somethings, or not. Its not gona change either way, i just thought id be honest and put it out there. First, i accused myself of being an addict when i entered starbucks during my lunch break today. I had already been to starbucks for breakfast on my way to work, and then proceeded to pay a visit to the starbucks in the city during my lunch break, knowing that i would return yet again to one on the way home, 4 hours later. I am addicted to coffee... and just not addicted to coffee, but starbucks. I do drink dunkin donuts and wawa, but for some reason i always find myself at starbucks. I figure that coffee isnt high in calories and its better to drink coffee constantly than say, soda. So thats why i dont know if its bad, or just a harmless addction. I think its bad to be addicted to anything just becasue if its not around someday, i might die since i live on it and look forward to it so much, everyday, nomatter what. Luckily at Penn there will be a starbucks conveniently across the street from main campus, so i dont have to worry about being stranded anytime soon. My second addiction was discovered long ago, but also yesterday during my lunch break. I had early lunch, and i wasnt hungry yet so i decided to explore the city and find shopping. I started my journey on the steps at work and after 25 minutes of walking down somewhat unfamiliar streets, i found myself on walnut street looking for sales. So, yes im addcited to shopping, but also, to the city. I constantly look for reasons to go into Philly for work, social events, exercise, and shopping, -all to explore. Though i already know my way around most of center and south Philly, i always love to walk around, people watch, and see whats new and changing. So that was a given, you already knew that im a philly phanatic. The last addiction was determined today, however i dont know exactly when, but bottom line: Im addicted to being busy. I cant decide what kinda of busy, because during school i will do anything to get out sometimes, but i love doing work. weird? I dont want to turn into a workaholic, but i do love being busy and running around, always with something on my mind. When i dont have work or something to do, i fill my time wirting about it, on here!

So speaking of writing about it, today was day three, of week one, of working camp. Ive become friends with almost all of my campers, and i like it a whole lot more than the first day. Im glad i stuck with it and i love having break to walk to starbucks or explore the city (while shopping). The kids are so smart and funny, and lets not forget troublemakers. Though its hard and long days, i enjoy it. So im off to read or find something else to occupy myself until i crash, and wake up again to start another day of 8 years old science madness.

ciao! bisous!

Back to being fatigued by 3pm

June 24 2008, 2:42 AM

I started camp work today. Im with the 8-9 year old age group, as an aide, and theyre crazy. The camp itself is random and scattered, but i guess they need help, and i need volunteer hours. Truely i dont like it half as much as the other museum i actually work at, but what can i do. This museum is so huge, and the people there are different. I know one of the counselors, M, so we hung out most of the day. I met a lot of interesting people, like very interesting, if you know what i mean. I really dont fit in too well, but i get along with everyone and the kids are nice enough, so its fine. One of the other aides is hilarious, shes volunteer but constantly thinks people are hitting on her and is quite amusing to talk to. Another was an intern, who was living at penn and expected a real internship. She was unpleasantly surprised when she arrived. She looked very confused and i dont think she'll be back tomorrow.  I wouldnt pay to be at Penn all summer wokring as a babysitter. I think ill get used to working it though, even though the kids never get worn out and i wana fall over by lunch.

Im still cool about Romer, no freak outs, or breakdowns. I keep telling myself what i shouldnt, and just patiently waiting. Ohh also today i saw one of my good friends, B. We saw Get Smart and went out to eat in king of prussia. She left my school last year and i dont see her too much anymore so Im so glad i finally got to see her.
